Flower Power Photo Flags

Susumu Sato's celebrated and award winning "Flower Power Flag" series was first inspired by a 1992 exhibition in East Hampton of Jasper John's Flag paintings. Along with Rebecca Segerstrom as designer and stylist, they first created an American Flag.

At the 25th anniversary of Americare, the relief organization, Sato & Segerstrom presented the American Flag to George Bush, who hung the print in his library at Texas A&M University.Other Flower Flag owners include Richard von Weizsacker, former President of Germany,Hary Holkeri, President of the General Assembly, and Colin Powell. Even Representatives of Boris Yeltsin put in an order for a Russian Flag;soon after Sato's print arrived, it appeared next to Yeltsin during a nationally televised speech.

The Flower Power Flag portraits of the American and the Texas flag that received the Award for Excellence from the American Flag Institute in 1999 and the Matthew Brady Award for Patriotic Photography, have also been integrated into the Permanent Collection of the Museum for the Arts of South Texas.
The Flower Power Flag project has been on exhibit at the United Nations UNCA Club since Sept.of 2000 and will shortly receive the Award for Excellence from the United Nations Society for Artist & Writers.
